SUMMER 2023 DIVISION OUTLOOK

Hear from each division about their updates from the past quarter

Welcome

The first half of this year has resulted in a number of accomplishments team-wide that we are proud to share in this issue. We have empowered our members with educational events over the past few months, ranging from case workshops to application-specific workshops to better prepare them for this cycle. Moreover, we have completed 3 agency projects, 3 currently ongoing, with an additional 3 projects planned for Q4. These events are key to the success of our members, and we continue to strive to ensure our members are equipped with consulting opportunities.

In addition we are also excited to announce that we have published our 2022 CCTMC Caseguide, which is written by multiple executive team members and consulting offer holders.

Our Externals division successfully held a joint Duke-UNC-TMC Case Competition with 34 teams and 141 participants with over 44 institutions represented worldwide. This was a huge undertaking and we hope to continue nurturing similar collaborations with consulting clubs nationwide. Our Community division held two socials this year to engage our members and build lasting relationships. In case you missed them, look out for future social announcements! We will also be hosting networking events with local consulting firms-- a great opportunity to meet and mingle with consultants. Finally, our Finance and Marketing Teams have been hard at work and recently secured  sponsorships from Health Advances, LEK and Molekule Consulting.

Finally, we are excited to announce that Oscar Truong, who now holds a Bain consulting offer, will be retiring as our Senior Advisor, and Xinye Qian will be transitioning to be a Senior Vice President.

Through these endeavors, many of our executive team and training members have secured consulting offers and internships during the first half of this year. I want to congratulate you all for your achievements and know that the combined knowledge will further prepare our members. We are always thrilled to engage with motivated, driven and passionate advanced degree students to join our efforts. Join us and build your career in consulting!

The External Division’s preparations for the 2023 Duke-UNC-TMC National Case Competition are in full swing! This year, we received 29 teams’ applications in the general round and recruited 30+ judges from premier consulting firms, including McKinsey & Company, BCG, Bain & Company, L.E.K., ClearView Healthcare Partners, and many others. Triangle Insights, a consulting firm based out of North Carolina is providing this year’s case prompt and has offered a compelling prize to the winners - a first-round interview for a full-time position with the firm. We also organized 3 educational workshops presented by Management Consulted and Peter K. Management Consulted , RocketBlocks, Preplounge, and Peter K provide free subscriptions of their programs to the case competition winners.

The Community Division is committed to creating networking opportunities for our members with consultants and likeminded aspiring consultants. This year we are a three member team. Recently we have hosted two recruitment events with two consulting firms with virtual and in-person modalities. Additionally our club hosted a networking social for our executive team members during recruiting season. These events not only strengthened personal connections between our club members and consultants, they also served as a driver to attract and reach other Advanced Degree Candidates looking for resources in consulting preparation. Our focus is to increase alumni engagement by hosting large (60+ people) CCTMC networking events. This will strengthen our current relationship with firms and will further create new relationships with incoming consultants.

The Agency Division has recruited and trained 3 Division members. The Division members are currently creating updated training documentation for new Project Leads and Consultants as well as templates for slides and Final Deliverables that are tailored towards each type of consulting service provided by CCTMC. We have also successfully completed two client-facing projects: (1) Identify funding opportunities for a new pharmacy technician training program and (2) Identify necessary steps for obtaining soil samples in protected lands. Each project was staffed by 6 consultants and led by 1 Project Lead. Both projects were completed in early March. We currently anticipate at least one project in the summer and will begin recruiting in May. Please join us if you want to experience what it’s like to be a real consultant!

The Education & Training Division is responsible for organizing and delivering Educational seminars on management consulting and maintaining relationships with representatives from consulting firms that can serve as guest speakers for our events. Our team of three meets weekly to organize educational seminars on management consulting and host guest speakers from top consulting firms. We're proud to have successfully executed our 'Ace the Case' webinar series featuring incoming consultants and experienced Case coaches like Peter K. Additionally, our '2023 Case Camp' provided a structured environment for individuals preparing to apply for consulting positions. Collaborating with DUKE DACC, we also hosted a week-long Case Bootcamp for aspiring consultants. Last but not least, we are working to organize a summer series of case walkthroughs and panels with premier consulting firms that will help our members familiarize with their culture and expectations. Please join us if you really want to be in the heart of CCTMC’s effort to expand consulting career prospects for people of TMC and connect with influential figures in the consulting industry.

The Business Development Division has been in the process of acquiring more clients for summer cycle Agency projects. We are currently writing a proposal with a local nonprofit as well as establishing a CCTMC x TAMU GC collaboration so that we can become more involved with energy-related Agency projects. We may also have a returning client from the winter cycle, and proposal writing for this is pending. Please reach out if you know of an entity (nonprofit, startup, etc.) that could benefit from projects with CCTMC!

The Finance & Marketing Division handles the finances and manages publicity for our various events and recruitment opportunities. This quarter we focused on revamping our membership tiers to add clarity and an additional benefit to our resource package. We had been diligently working to update the website to include more relevant information, easier navigation, and a new calendar that highlights our upcoming events. Additionally, we’ve worked to send out less emails during the week and include a weekly newsletter on Monday to announce all of our upcoming activities.

The CCTMC Connect will also feature an informational article that can help you prepare for our upcoming case competition, and an exciting crossword that you can fill in to enter our raffle!

If you are a member interested in engaging with any CCTMC division, please fill out this form. Engagement opportunities range from division and time of year but we are always excited to incorporate our members into opportunities that help grow our organization!
