2021 TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER CASE COMPETITION

Welcome to the 2021 Greater Houston Case Competition!

The competition will take place virtually by Zoom and is open to any MD/PhD/Masters students and Postdoctoral Fellows. Teams of 3-5 (maximum 1 MBA per team) will present solutions centered around a real-world business problem to consulting industry leaders and executive leadership of our client sponsor, Harris Health System.


Cash prizes will be given for 1st-3rd place teams: $2,000 for 1st place, $1,000 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place.

Additionally, members of the first place team will receive a private 1:1 networking and coaching session at the conclusion of the event with C-suite executives from Harris Health and consultants from MBB firms.

The mission of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation is to enhance the broad healthcare mission of the Harris Health System by soliciting and raising funds for programs, and increasing the community’s awareness of the Harris Health System.

Do I need any business or case interview experience?

What about prior knowledge of the client or industry?

No prior business or case interview experience is required, nor is any prior knowledge of the client or industry. This event is designed to be a fun learning experience and to help introduce our members to a real-life consulting engagement.
 
Who is designing the business case study?
The case study is provided by our client sponsor, Harris Health System. 
 
What do participants get out of this?

How does a Virtual Case Competition work?

In the General Round, each team will prepare slides and record a 10 minute video presentation. The first-round judges will review the videos on their preferred time within a week, and the top teams will be invited to participate in the Semi Final Round.  During the Semi Final Round, teams will give a private 10 minute live presentations to a new round of judges and answer questions from the Evaluation Panel for 15 minutes. Teams will be ranked and scored and the top 4 teams will proceed to the final round. Teams that proceed to the final round will present their findings for 10 minutes to Final Round judges which include management consultants as well as executive leadership from Harris Health System. The Final Round will be open to all participants and judges from previous rounds.

Who can participate in the competition?

Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, MDs, MBAs from participating institutions. There may be no more than 1 MBA per team.
